Easy Raspberry Gratin

Serves 4 To 6

Ingredients

20 ounces (4 cups) fresh or frozen raspberries
1 tablespoon granulated sugar
1 tablespoon kirsch or vanilla extract (optional)
Pinch salt
3 slices hearty white sandwich bread, torn into quarters
1⁄4 cup packed (1-3⁄4 ounces) brown sugar
2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
Pinch ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Adjust oven rack to lower-middle position and heat oven to 400 degrees. Gently toss raspberries, granulated sugar, kirsch, if using, and salt in medium bowl. Transfer mixture to 9-inch pie plate.
  2. Pulse bread, brown sugar, butter, and cinnamon in food processor until mixture resembles coarse crumbs, about 10 pulses. Sprinkle crumbs evenly over fruit and bake until crumbs are deep golden brown, 15 to 20 minutes. Transfer plate to wire rack, let cool for 5 minutes, and serve warm.
